Project update - July 2024
The Manton Street and Adam Street junction upgrade will provide additional capacity for city bound traffic by adding an additional left-turn lane from Manton Street into Adam Street (eastbound).
It will also improve:
- public transport efficiency
- pedestrian and cyclist safety
- access to the River Torrens Linear Path.
What’s happening
Site establishment activities are now complete, and construction is underway. Project completion is expected in late 2024 with minor finishing works to be complete in early 2025.
Upcoming works
- Removal of kerbing, stobie pole footings, footpaths, road signage and street furniture
- Service utilities relocations
- Drainage work
- Installation of Major Event Variable Speed Limit Signs
- Road widening activities
To minimise disruption to all road users, the majority of works will continue to be undertaken at night between 7pm and 6am (weather permitting). There will not be any night works on Saturday nights. Friday night works may be required intermittently.
Whilst the majority of work will happen at night, some day works will also be required. Daytime works will typically take place Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm as required.
To safely undertake these works, we will occasionally need to temporarily close Manton Street at the intersection of Adam Street. We will let you know in advance of this occurring.
We will continue to work closely with key stakeholders in the area to ensure we minimise impacts to local events.
What to expect
To keep everyone safe, speed and lane restrictions will be in place throughout the work zone during working hours. Please observe onsite signage and direction of traffic controllers when travelling through the area.
Outside of working hours, speed restrictions will remain in place.
Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed. The work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby residents and businesses as much as practically possible.
Pedestrian access and changes
Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons, there may be some restricted access. Where required, signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative access and/or detours.
Access to businesses and properties will be maintained at all times. If there is a need for short-term access impacts, we will contact you directly in advance.
We encourage you to register to receive project updates and stay up to date as the project progresses using the above contact details overleaf.
We thank you for your patience during these important works.
