Start of works
As part of the River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project there will be $850 million worth of additional network and amenity upgrades along and around the final 10.5km section of South Road. These works are essential to the proper functioning of the motorway and wider road network both during and after construction of the T2D project.
As part of these broader network upgrades the T2D Project will deliver a new link road for motorists and residents at Selgar Avenue to link with the Tonsley precinct. Works will commence from Monday, 24 April 2023, with project completion expected late-2023.
What to expect
The following key activities will be undertaken to construct the new link road between Selgar Avenue and the Tonsley precinct:
- site mobilisation works will involve installing temporary fencing for a secure site, establishing site amenities, locating services and installation of traffic controls
- site preparation will involve removal of vegetation, existing drainage and surface treatments along the alignment of the new link road
- earthworks to construct the new link road, install drainage, roadside kerbing and road base preparation
- service utilities includinginstallation oftelecommunication and water main, road lighting and footpaths
- asphalting and line marking the new link road, and
- site demobilisation and reinstatement of the area impacted by works.

Works will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm Monday to Fridays with intermittent Saturday works, weather permitting. While the majority of works will be undertaken offline, when interfacing with surrounding roads, works will move progressively around the junctions with MAB circuit and Selgar Avenue to minimise impacts to traffic and maintain access.
Selgar Avenue and MAB Circuit will remain open to traffic at all times. Speed and lane restrictions will be in place in the vicinity of the works. Please take extra care when workers are on site and observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.
Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care when travelling through the area. For safety reasons there may be some restricted access. Where required, signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists to alternative access and/or detours.
Access to properties will be maintained at all times, with advance notice provided if there is a need to temporarily restrict access. Some noise disturbance can be expected at times while these works are completed, however the work will be managed to minimise disturbance to nearby businesses and residents as much as practically possible.
